Friday’s Change Reflection Quote - Leadership of Change - Continuous Never Ending Change and Improvement

Feb

Happy Friday!

On this day, February 17, 1972, the 15,007,034th Volkswagen Beetle rolled out of the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, surpassing the Ford Model T's previous production record. The Beetle was first manufactured in 1938 and in 1946, it reached its first milestone when the 10,000th Volkswagen was completed. It became the “people’s car”. The rear engine provided adequate traction for the driving wheels in snow and was able to climb on icy roads before winter tyres were introduced. A total of 21,529,464 were made between 1938 and 2003. A new Beetle was introduced in 1997 and ended production in 2019.

Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company and invented the Model T car back in 1908. He also introduced the moving assembly line production method of car manufacturing. Henry Ford changed the way of life for many people with his vision to make owning a car practical and affordable. He told us, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” He also told us. “The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.” If you mention cars today, it is very hard not to think about Elon Musk and his electric Tesla cars. He believes we must have a clear path to a sustainable energy future and tells us, “We will not stop until every car on the road is electric.” He constantly thinks about how he could be do things better. According to Musk, “Some people don't like change, but you need to embrace change if the alternative is disaster.” These two men had common interests in learning, innovation, improvement, and change, as well as a vision to make things happen. Continuous, never ending change and improvement.

“Life is all about 'Continuous, Never Ending Change and Improvement' (CNECI) as we grow, learn, develop and regenerate”

We live in very exciting times and 4IR will impact the workforce like never before.  The rate of change means we constantly need to keep up to date with new ways of working, socialising, and living. It means that leaders of organisations will need to be highly competent in leading change. I am a big supporter of moving away from static PowerPoint slides and using innovative experiential learning. You cannot learn how your stakeholders will react to change or build your own self-awareness from PowerPoint. I love gamification because it is an interactive and dynamic way for employees to learn change management skills and knowledge using game characteristics. It is a safe environment to make mistakes and then apply the learning back in the workplace.
