We asked a selection of our Thinkers360 global thought leaders and influencers about their predictions for Generative AI in 2024. Here’s what they told us…
What are your predictions for Generative AI in 2024?
Increased business application within the required regulatory framework
Generative AI will become even more integrated into our daily lives. From content creation tools, music generation, to personalized shopping experiences, the applications will be vast and more commonly accepted. However, I believe the implementation of regulatory requirements, such as the EU AI Act that will come into affect in 2024, will drive adoption in larger companies that are able to establish the required governance frameworks.
– Kamales Lardi, CEO at Lardi & Partner Consulting.
Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) will accelerate adoption of Large Language Model powered ChatGPT-like applications for the enterprise. This will lead to greater adoption due to RAG’s ability to virtually eliminate hallucinations, protect company IP, provide audit trails and traceability and adhere to brand guidelines. This will require user organizations and vendors to build maturity in knowledge and information architecture methodologies and to leverage ontologies and knowledge graphs as part of enterprise grade AI solutions. It will drive organizations to invest in knowledge operations and to improve unstructured content hygiene. Knowledge will be at the core of successful AI deployments. At a recent Forrester event, analysts and speakers agreed that Retrieval Augmented Generation will have the greatest impact of any AI technology in the enterprise. Gartner had predicted that knowledge management for AI would be the fastest growing and largest area of spend on AI.
– Seth Earley, CEO at Earley Information Science.
We will see demand for synthetic data for training as more companies will invest in the development of custom LLM’s. The deployment of Gen AI on edge infrastructure will accelerate the use of real time data for security, sustainability, and business specific use cases
– Lisa Thee, CEO at AMP Solutions LLC.
Over the next year generative AI continues to evolve rapidly, reinforcing and compounding the role it played in 2023 in democratizing and consumerizing AI. Generative AI providers will make several improvements including increasing conversational fluency, improving response accuracy and providing better tools for improving prompts. Application providers will continue to embed generative AI across the full range of enterprise applications, democratize the use by moving prompt engineering away from the user and into the middle layer which will simplify user interaction with the tools, and offering more applications tailored for individual industries. Companies will continue the focus on immediate outcomes for generative AI projects (productivity gains), moving from proof of concept and pilot projects to full production and increase investments in generative AI enabled applications, particularly for industry vertical use cases. The early adopter companies will start shifting from immediate outcomes (productivity) to strategies that systematize end-to-end solutions.
– Michael Fauscette, CEO & Chief Analyst at Arion Research LLC.
The massive use of AGI is taking us to an advanced step of interaction between machines and human with more integration of AGI in our everyday life actions. This evolution in our interactions as a human with machines is accelerating the transformation to transhumanism or human 2.0. This transformation will be facilitated by Symbiotic Autonomous Systems (SAS) which will be the most important trend of AGI considering that these advanced technologies offer a good opportunity to the empowerment of human intelligence which also means the “extension of human mind” when using AGI. Symbiotic interactions between human and Symbiotic Autonomous Systems are the bridge to the transhumanism. This leads us to another trends related to SASs which is autonomous decision making and its implications on international relations and interactions in international society. These implications could be explained by the differences between human brain and SASs especially because these emerging technologies are learning from human description of human experience while human brain is learning from human experiences. Automated decision is based on incomplete and no perfect data with no well-designed data with no well-designed AGI. In a sense, we need to understand the new identity of our societies, the implication of Automated decisions in international relations, and how these trends will transform international security, diplomacy, conflict resolution, etc. Thus, an international banned instrument on the ethics of AGI is an obligation rather than n choice.
– Fatima Roumate, President at International Institute of Scientific Research.
We will see the first commercially available generative AI-based agents that can accomplish goals based on a user-defined goal. These agents will be able to determine the steps needed to accomplish their goal, write and execute code, and connect to available APIs. They will go further where experimental frameworks and research papers stop, and provide a first glimpse at the true potential of generative AI that understands a user’s intent and is able to translate that into actionable steps.
– Andreas Welsch, Chief AI Strategist at Intelligence Briefing.
The future of generative AI is uncertain, but one thing is for sure: It will bring tremendous change. And there isn’t a single individual who won’t be impacted in some way. New features and capabilities bring new use cases. As we become more comfortable using AI, our use will become less task based and more integrated into our lives and workflows.
– Kambria Dumesnil, AI Strategist and Founder at AI Innovation Lounge.
Given how easy it is to create images using Generative AI, there will be a massive drop in demand for stock photography. Indeed, I am already hearing from businesses that prefer generative AI images over stock photography for several reasons. For instance, school prefer to use their own site photos with “generated” students.
– Prof. Marek Kowalkiewicz, Professor and Chair in Digital Economy at QUT (Queensland University of Technology).
In the ever-evolving realm of B2B influencer marketing, the key to creating impactful campaigns lies in fostering genuine partnerships that transcend mere transactional interactions. As an influencer, my approach centers on crafting narratives that resonate authentically with both the brand’s ethos and the industry’s pulse, ensuring that the message not only reaches but also engages the target audience on a substantive level. A common pitfall for brands is underestimating the importance of alignment between their values and the influencers they engage with; incongruence can lead to dissonance in messaging, eroding trust, and diminishing campaign effectiveness. Looking towards 2024, I anticipate a surge in the strategic use of AI and data analytics to further personalize B2B influencer initiatives, offering a more tailored and interactive experience that reinforces business relationships and drives measurable outcomes.
– Steve Nouri, Founder at AI4Diversity.
As we approach 2024, the forefront of AI development is inching closer to the threshold of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), a landmark evolution that is both thrilling and daunting. This year is likely to be marked by significant leaps towards AGI, representing a mix of exciting possibilities and profound challenges. AGI promises a level of computational intelligence that mirrors human cognitive abilities, enabling AI systems to understand, learn, and apply knowledge in diverse contexts far beyond specific tasks. The potential applications and implications of AGI are vast, spanning various sectors and fundamentally altering our interaction with technology.
In the realm of cybersecurity, we are beginning to see the early stages of this advancement towards AGI. While still in its nascent phase, the integration of AI with cybersecurity in 2024 will likely start to demonstrate how these technologies can gradually enhance our defensive capabilities. We can anticipate initial developments in AI systems that contribute to cybersecurity, providing more sophisticated methods of threat detection and analysis. However, the full potential of AI to predict, adapt, and respond to cyber threats with high efficiency remains a longer-term goal.
This initial phase in the convergence of AI and cybersecurity highlights the broader implications of AGI in our digital world and underscores the importance of careful consideration and robust governance frameworks. As we embark on this journey, the progress towards AGI could represent a make-or-break moment for humanity, akin to our new digital-age “Oppenheimer” moment.
– Adj. Professor Jason Lau, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Crypto.com.
In 2024, we can expect AI to progress significantly in terms of autonomy and complexity. We are likely to see wider implementation of AI in everyday applications, enhancing user experience and efficiency in industries like healthcare, finance, and customer service. Ethical and regulatory frameworks for AI will likely become more refined and critical, addressing concerns like data privacy, bias, and decision-making transparency. Additionally, advancements in AI’s capabilities could lead to breakthroughs in solving complex problems, from climate change modelling to medical research, leveraging vast data analysis and predictive modelling.
