Thinkers360: Tell us a bit about your background and areas of expertise.
ML: I started my career in finance at Motorola Codex and then moved into Global Corporate development. My finance background provided a solid foundation for technology forecasting while working in corporate development and market intelligence helped me understand strategic planning. After several technology marketing and market research industry analyst roles, I took the leap and created my own independent analyst practice in 2008. I’m currently helping companies understand what is happening at the intersection of AI , infrastructure and customer experience. We also continue to help companies understand changes in workspace technology.
Thinkers360: What are your current responsibilities and what is your typical day like?
ML: It varies every day but a few things are consistent. I read constantly. I speak daily with technology buyers and technology sellers. During my meetings with tech buyers, I learn about their challenges with technology adoption and how they’d like to evolve their business. I advise both tech buyers and sellers on what trends Lopez Research sees unfolding and where there are opportunities and challenges, especially as it relates to AI adoption. Some weeks, I spend 2-3 days with technology vendors in private NDA industry analyst sessions learning about the current technology and upcoming roadmaps. Other days, I am delivering custom presentations online or in-person at industry events and buyer strategy sessions. Interviewing business and technology leaders is one of my favorite things to do so podcasting, panels and on-line videos take up a good portion of the week. When I am lucky, I can lock myself in a room and spend hours quietly reading, thinking and writing about technology. With a busy travel and advisory schedule, it’s difficult to find quiet time to think and write in such a dynamic landscape. I’m an introvert that has learned to do many extroverted things . I’m enjoying the journey.
Thinkers360: What is the favorite part of your current role?
ML: Helping enterprises understand how to connect technology to business value and helping technical vendors describe in plain language how technology changes the world. My least favorite part of the market research field was forecasting. Hence, the company focuses on qualitative and quantitative data gathering, instead of forecasts.
Thinkers360: How do you like to work with brands who wish to engage you as a thought leader?
ML: I like to help brands create vendor-neutral, objective thought leadership content that shares market trends and insights on how companies are adopting technology. A brand doesn’t need content that says its product is great. It needs content that helps buyers discover what is important for their firm and what type of technology would support their business transformation. This type of content comes in many forms including market education videos, LinkeIN Lives, podcasts on AI with Maribel Lopez, keynote speeches, fireside chats, webinars, etc. Occassionally We craft articles for brands that delve into the latest tech trends, deliberately avoiding specific vendor or product mentions to maintain an impartial stance. This approach empowers technology buyers with the knowledge they need to make well-informed decisions, elevating their understanding without the influence of brand bias.We also offer reprints of our syndicated research.
Additionally many companies have trusted Lopez Research to provide the brand with a knowledgeable moderator or host that can interview their executives for fireside chats at conferences, moderate sessions with a brand and its customers at industry events and act as a master of ceremonies for bespoke events.
