Thinkers360: Lenka, tell us a bit about your background and areas of expertise
LP: I was always interested in innovation, math and science, which led me to a master’s degree in computer sciences. I learned about the critical importance of a “translation” between the business and technology, and the need for successful enterprise-wide transformations that make businesses future proof.
This realization stayed with me for the rest of my career. I spent 10 years supporting CEOs on their transformation journeys as a consultant, to become a transformation leader in manufacturing and later in banking myself.
I became a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI)’s community along the way because of the vast amount of resources, know-how and network this global organization offers. I used these resources to be successful on my journey. I wanted to give back, so I became a PMI volunteer, PMI Chapter President, and later had the opportunity to join the new PMI Executive teams as the PMI CEO & President’s Chief of Staff.
My areas of expertise that I stayed focused on include technology, project management, agile practices, portfolio management, transformation, and my favorite – system thinking.
Thinkers360: As a Chief of Staff to the CEO of a global organization, what are your current responsibilities, and what does a typical day look like?
LP: In my role, I’m the Chief of Staff to the CEO, and the Head of the Office of the CEO, which is a group of several enterprise functions. The Office of the CEO includes our Transformation Office, Enterprise Program Management Office, Thought Leadership team, and supports the CEO & Board of Directors communications.
My typical day actually starts the day before 😊 I check my priorities, what’s coming up, and make sure all critical tasks are well supported. I like to enter a new day prepared and organized. During the day, I need to be able to stay focused on urgent tasks and balance it with spending time with the rest of our senior leadership team and managers of my teams, making sure we’re all on the same page on terms of the organizational strategy and priorities.
At PMI, we nurture a large global community of project professionals, so my time is also split into the “office work” and international travel to stay in touch with our members, volunteers and partners.
Thinkers360: What’s the favorite part of your current role?
LP: PMI’s purpose is very impactful and that’s what keeps me motivated. I would say the best part of my job is when I get feedback from our community members who share what helped them to be successful, or when members of our teams share what is the new thing they learned and how they improved. Then I see that what we do makes sense.
Thinkers360: How do you utilize Thinkers360?
LP: I use the Thinkers360 platform in multiple ways. I often look for inspiring thought leaders in areas that interest me, Thinkers360 Leaderboards are a great source. I also use the platform to keep track of my speaking engagements and reflect on topics I share with the community. I’m also checking the newsletter that summarizes contributions of other thought leaders. I’m glad for any content that helps me stay current and cognizant of key trends impacting the project management profession.

I work for a not-for-profit organization that is the global thought leadership authority for the project management profession and project success – Project Management Institute. A lot of my work is indeed focused on supporting our purpose, to maximize project success to elevate our world. That includes exploration and contribution to topics such as innovation, impact of technology on the profession, AI, agility, change management, sustainability and a few more. I’m always very happy to connect and learn about the latest insights in adjacent industries and see how we can join forces to support project success.
Thinkers360: What’s your main advice for upcoming thought leaders?
LP: If you’re new to this, you might get overwhelmed by thoughts like “Is there still anything new to be said? What if I just repeat the obvious? Is anyone going to be interested in what I’m saying? Can I contribute meaningfully – the space looks already so crowded.”
My advice is to be yourself and trust your gut. So many people who are eager to learn and get inspired on their career journey. They appreciate content that is relatable to their experience, that offers a new angle, that is genuine and invites dialogue. Being a thought leader supports building communities, individual journeys, and peer-to-peer learning. So if you have something to say, go for it! Find the right platform for you and get your thoughts out there.
