Thinkers360: Tell us a bit about your background and areas of expertise.
GSD: In times of chaos and constant change, many leaders focus on tweaking operations and applying pressure. The best focus on people. Performance is driven by how leaders show up for their people.
I’ve spent over 30 years in technology consulting and professional services, leading cross-functional, multigenerational teams through sustained high-pressure environments across North America. Lived experiences such as the aftermath of 9/11, multiple acquisitions, recessions, and the pandemic proved that leadership is truly tested when uncertainty clouds judgment and the human impact of decisions is highest. Today, I focus on helping leaders facing low engagement, burnout, Hybrid/RTO tensions, AI anxiety, and rapid acceleration of change.
As the creator of Architect of People First™ and author of Empowering People Through Caring Leadership, my work centers on building high-performing teams where well-being and performance go together — through care, clarity, accountability, trust, and human connection.
When chaos and constant change threaten performance, the solution isn’t just “better management”
— it’s a MINDSET SHIFT.
Thinkers360: What are your current responsibilities and what does a typical day look like?
GSD: I offer the benefit of my experience through selective keynote speaking, advisory, and coaching. Burnout, disengagement, and trust erosion are not HR issues — they’re leadership issues directly impacting performance. Leaders must establish trust and human connection to stabilize performance. I also spend a portion of my time helping individuals seeking career guidance—or simply someone who will listen.
I work part-time by design. No two days are the same; a typical day might include:
• Advising on people-related challenges
• Preparing and delivering keynotes
• Appearing as a podcast guest sharing Caring Leadership and People First principles
• Writing and sharing thought leadership on platforms like LinkedIn and Thinkers360
• Guiding or coaching individuals on career development
I also make a point to reconnect with former colleagues, clients, and leaders with whom I’ve built lasting relationships.

GSD: Helping people and giving back is the most meaningful part of my work.Often, nothing external has changed; the challenges are still there. But how people see the situation, how they approach others, and how they carry responsibility becomes more grounded and intentional. It’s extremely rewarding to see that MINDSET SHIFT. That shift improves not only performance, but also the employee experience and the culture of the organization. I like to bring real leadership experience into the conversation, not theory but lived experience, especially around the tougher side of leadership that isn’t always talked about openly.
I genuinely enjoy helping individuals who are looking for career guidance or navigating workplace challenges.
Thinkers360: How do you utilize Thinkers360?
GSD: I see Thinkers360 as a validation and credibility platform. It brings together practitioners grounded in real experience and relevant to what leaders are dealing with on the ground. It’s also a great place to learn from other thought leaders and influencers on topics like leadership in the AI era.

Thinkers360: How do you like to work with brands who wish to engage you as a thought leader?
GSD: 2024 and 2025 have been challenging due to health issues, so I’m very selective and purpose-driven in how I engage. I accept a limited number of high-impact engagements each year. I look to work with organizations that are genuinely trying to address leadership challenges—not just talk about them. The focus is on substance over hype.
From the start, clients understand that I bring practical insights rooted in Caring Leadership and People First principles to help address real issues leaders face:

Thinkers360: What’s your main advice for upcoming thought leaders?
GSD: Be authentic. Focus on being useful. Provide value.
Credible thought leadership doesn’t come from positioning; it comes from lived experience, reflection, and a willingness to speak honestly about what works and what doesn’t.
Too often, people rush to simplify complex leadership challenges into quick answers. In reality, leadership is nuanced, situational, and often uncomfortable—yet also very rewarding.
Share insights and lessons learned that others recognize as true, not just what is popular or trending. If it doesn’t help leaders lead better, support their people, and improve performance, it’s just noise.
Trust and human connection build slowly. They ultimately define lasting influence.
I would be thrilled if my legacy is that I helped people be their best.
