Managing risks on a nuclear power project is a daunting prospect. Safety is paramount, but project professionals also must cope with environmental, budget, schedule and quality risks. One strategy for managing all these risks is to collaborate with other organizations in similar situations.
We are using this approach on my current project, Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) Darlington Refurbishment, which launched in 2016. This CA$12.8 billion, 10-year megaproject will extend the life of the Darlington nuclear power plant's four nuclear reactors by 30 years.

Working closely with regional hub leadership and the PMOGA Global Community Lead, the Community Engagement Lead drives participation in community initiatives, monitors engagement metrics, and ensures alignment with PMOGA’s mission and goals. Regular reporting on progress and outcomes will be provided to leadership.

The role involves collaborative brainstorming, strategic planning, and innovative thinking to devise actionable plans that resonate with PMOGA’s values and objectives.
This role is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of strategic change, ensuring the voices and expertise of the PMOGA community are amplified and heard at the highest levels of PMI leadership.

Research revealed the steps PMO leaders across the world can take to help their PMO evolve into a strategic, value-creating function and better meet the needs of senior leaders:

Shift their mindset from a process focus to a service orientated approach, PMOs can help internal and/or external customers achieve better outcomes.
