Ready or Not, the New OT and PT Eval CPT Codes are Coming
Fusion Web Clinic
December 09, 2016
On January 1, 2017, the occupational therapy & physical therapy evaluation and re-evaluation codes 97001, 97002, 97003, and 97004 were going to be permanently retired and would be replaced by eight new, much more complex evaluative CPT codes, required by CMS and the AMA for all HIPAA-covered entities and all payers.
What this meant for therapists and clinics was that if they failed to use these new medical billing codes, then they would receive no reimbursement from medicare and medicaid.

What is a Web-Based EMR?
Let's start with a definition. A web-based or "cloud"-based electronic records management system (EMR) is software that stores data through the internet. "Cloud" refers to the place electronic data is stored. A web-based EMR generally refers to an off-site server, or group of servers, where all the information is stored.

Ready or Not, the New OT and PT Eval CPT Codes are Coming
Fusion Web Clinic
December 09, 2016
Both the American Medical Association (AMA) and CMS worked together on an initiative that would temporarily change the CPT (billing) codes that occupational and physical therapists use on a daily basis for new patient evaluations, which would determine the complexity of the service and subsequent treatment provided to patients, which would be analyzed after one year and then used to determine how occupational and physical therapists would be reimbursed for all future treatments for those CPT codes. My goal of this article was to inform and educate the entire U.S. population of OT and PT, roughly 500,000 healthcare professionals, how to use the new codes in practice, correctly, but also AMA's and CMS's intention of leveraging big data and predictive analytics to measure the use and cost of using each CPT, which would directly impact a large percentage of each clinician's short and long-term compensation.
