Friday’s Change Reflection - Quote Leadership of Change - Embrace AI Change or Regress

Feb

Happy Friday!

On this day, February 10, 1996, after three hours, world chess champion Garry Kasparov loses the first of a six-game regulated match against the IBM computer Deep Blue. Kasparov went on to win the match 4-2 and take home the $400,000 prize. The match was played in Philadelphia and watched by an estimated 6 million people worldwide. Deep Blue was upgraded in 1997, and on May 11, 1997, in a six-game rematch, it defeated Kasparov by winning three games and drawing one over several days. Deep Blue's victory is regarded as a watershed moment in the history of artificial intelligence, and it was a classic case of man versus machine.

1997 was an unpleasant experience for Garry Kasparov, but it helped him understand the future of human-machine collaboration. He told us, “I always say I was the first knowledge worker whose job was threatened by a machine.” Many people are worried that artificial intelligence (AI) could negatively impact our lives and be detrimental to society. Many worry that it is moving too fast, that it will take our jobs, and that we do not know how to control it. However, Garry Kasparov argues that, “technology is the main reason why so many of us are still alive to complain about technology.” Embrace AI change or regress.

“AI will be an unpleasant experience for many. It will be dangerous, but it does offer advantages and disadvantages. We have two choices: either embrace AI change or regress”

We know from history that progress cannot be stopped; nothing remains the same, and at some point in time, everything changes. AI will radically change what we work on and how we work. AI can provide organisations with the opportunity to gain a competitive edge. These technologies can make it easier and cheaper for businesses to deliver better products and services to their customers. It will help to improve productivity and operational efficiencies by avoiding mistakes and ‘human error’. It can streamline data analytics and provide insights to predict customer preferences and offer them an enhanced, personalised experience. For now, AI is here to stay. Organisations with superior leadership of change capability will implement AI quickly and move ahead in the marketplace. Superior change leadership is the aptitude to develop and articulate an AI change vision that will inspire the organisation to the new future. A compelling change vision that inspires employees with purpose, one that touches feelings and emotions to enlist employee and organisation support.

Have a fantastic weekend with the ones you love and care for, enjoy some fresh air, exercise, eat, drink and be happy.
