Aaron Lax is the founder of Cybersecurity Insiders Groups and Cybersecurity Insiders, LLC.

Ended my career thereafter working for 3 years on an upgrade from Oracle Forms to a Single Page Application built with Node and AngularJS at first but migrated to ReactJS with a Node Backend talking to an Oracle Database. After getting the page working, management decided to not pursue the project further, promoted me but handed me no work for

Java Web Tokens (JWTs) and Redis were used to pass the User/Login from the Oracle DB to the Application to verify the user's access and privilege level fpfrServer Administrator of 2 major enterprises in my work, 10 year Sr. Developer for AR Supreme Court and have managed servers since age 8, 32 years.

From there I have been Server Administrator for an Engineering Firm B&F Engineering, Inc. that was purchased by Crafton Tull, in which I was the server administrator managing 50+ users, and all data and servers and we had contracts with ARDOT, OKDOT, TXDOT, USDOT, Army Corps including (AF1 Hanger and the Border Wall) as well as SpaceX Launchpads.

From there I have moved to a company in which we are the largest supplier of eggs and hatchlings to the entire world, from Tyson Chicken to almost every egg in North, Central, and South America.

I am now about to move to another position as a Network Coordinator

The Fears, Truths, and Potentials of Artificial Intelligence

In writing the above Warning, I am stating what programmers have been doing the programming and mathematical algorithms for the last 15+ years to achieve a human-like Turing test passing computer. The Turing Test is a series of 30 questions asked of an Intelligence in which it should be able to determine the identity: man or machine. A Twitter chatbot was the first application to pass the test. It did this by pretending to be a 13-year-old Ukranian boy. The Turing test has been the standard for the last 73 years. It is time to adapt for security purposes. With the evolution of computers, GPUs, and CPUs, this test should be evolving equally, but it has remained relatively strong in determining the Artificial from the answers of Man. The end of 2022 and the start of 2023, to be exact, January 9th, 2023, GPT -3’s release has changed the world.

Danger’s of AI: Can we ever Eliminate Them?

I want to preface this article with my love of the technology, my belief in it’s innovation, and desire to see it strive to its potential. I have written articles about the subject prior to and upon the release of beta OpenAI GPT. I continue to strive to bring the latest on the subject and champion it in the greater world beyond that of just the AI and Technology Communities. With people like Nicolas Babin and Tony Morony we are seeing its integration into business/marketing and finance. We of course are also seeing it other fields from programming, filmaking, art, design, and scientific fields. However, some of these ventures by not just the main players, but hundreds of companies are posing a threat beyond that of what most recognize. I write this because of one such comment on a post of mine today that claimed voice-cloning AI is harmless. This is my side of that comment in full form, and I am going to dive deeper into other aspects of the recently emerged technology.

I start this with the question of what is the world's most powerful tool? What does a person need most to succeed? What allows someone to make a difference in this world? OR What is the best quality to excel in as to change the world? From this set of questions you will get various answers from #love, #money, #sex, #power, #influence, #money I said it again just because people seem to think with it that you are instantly happy and able to do whatever you want...mo-#money more problems is one of the most truthful statements in the world. Thus, while yes money allows you to do things in ways others may not have access to I assure you that money does not solve problems in the #mind, #depression is a major factor in #wealthier individuals. So what in the world is the most important quality to have to achieve true power? What is the best resource a person can work on to obtain this elusive (not really) resource? And no it is not work-ethic either. The ultimate tool that one can have, work on, always strive to improve, and will benefit all areas in one's personal life (with the exception of love unless referring to meeting the person this one varies from person to person) is #networking, and no not computer networking.

So in the year 2022 we have seen two things more people entering the field of #cybersecurity and secondly more attacks occurring, so what is the problem? More actors?? No that should not matter if the people that are protecting the attack vectors are proactive rather than reactive, we are working in a system that should not be occurring in ANYWAY yeah maybe a few days of downtime if you do not have a redundancy location or are able to run your Virtual Machines being that is what you are using but let's just hope in 2022 really 2023 you are. Sure attacks will happen but they are not the end all be all with a proactive approach, sure they are a pain because it require a ll that BANDWIDTH TO RESTORE TO YOUR SYSTEMS from the remote location...and you have to restore all those systems from backups...but #ransomware that is ill preparation why are #SOCS allowing this? Anyway. that is is my rant on the current state of #SOCSS I will not even get into the #MSP arena...1st encounter with one was cleaning up the original wonderful #ransomware #wannacry remnants from my servers at my previous employment. So I need NOT say more...

So the crisis we are not seeing is that last year 160 billion dollars went into UNKNOWN hands we know that foreign states have some, we know the former Mafia does as well but more so in things like gambling, script kiddies, as*holes that just want to watch thing burn, or generate so much chaos they profit from the chaos in one way or another. I quoted batman probably incorrectly this week in saying "Sometimes they just like to watch it all burn.", Afred from Nolan's Batman with Joker...

As we have seen in just the first 4 weeks of 2022, the threats are not going away. The Advanced Persistent Threat (ATP) Groups are increasing in number, scale of capabilities, and include individuals that are incredibly smart. But in addition to that we have situations like what has been announced yesterday, a 12 year vulnerability in Every Distribution of Linux from (RedHat to Kali) if an attack gains access to a non-root account they can elevate privileges to root without the need for authentication. My point in saying this is that it is not just the Cybercriminals that are causing the situation we are currently facing in the world. We also have other factors that include: Operating System (OS) Vulnerabilities, Software Vulnerabilities, Misconfigurations of the System/Network Architecture, and countless other potential entry points. All that and still not mentioning the End User. All of which I will go through...I hope this Newsletter finds you happy, able to access it, and ready for the weekend!

SpaceX and Others Migrating to IPv6 after creation in 1995

Network Infrastructure Professionals everywhere groan about the IPv4 and IPv6 issue; why, though? I believe it is a resistance to change, as the learning curve exists to bring the world from the initial Internet Protocol structure of the 4-digit IP. Well, a 128 bit IP address offers a set of improvements that I will go through quickly.

Protection against foreign actors or APT groups, the encryption offers further protection, although I am not sure that is the case with Quantum Computers in the mix.

Ensuring Data traffic is not altered in any way, and network integrity is increased. 

Device Authenticity would be my number one and is offered with IPv6 to a much greater extent as it is harder to mimic the encryption.

IP address spoofing, where attackers forge IP addresses to deceive or bypass security controls, is thus far controlled with the further encryption in IPv6.

Encrypted IPv6 addresses offer privacy and can help protect user privacy by hiding traffic and yet more in-depth monitoring.

Thus, yes, the initial learning curve will be slight, but in comparison to the protection afforded, why have we waited 28 years? Thankfully iOT has been popularized and. the need for the number of addresses provided with the protocol has become needed.
