Nominations for Awards 2024- CMCE
RSS feeds WordPress
July 25, 2024
I am flattered by the nomination for the CNCE Awards 2024 considering the initial skepticism towards artificial intelligence that existed. Articles chosen underline required changes for consultants. “Embrace AI in Strategic Management” outlines the use of analytics to make decisions as well as develop. “The Death of Management Consulting” on the other hand posits that business models need to be redefined with power given back to customers while at the same time coming up with new competitive strategies. These insights show why consultants need to offer something different from any other profession and show customers how they can always be ahead of their time through reinvention using emerging technologies.

This analysis shows a rapid and steady market growth prediction for synthetic data.Synthetic data is made up information created by computers to look like real data. It's used when real data is hard to get or could invade people's privacy. This data helps train artificial intelligence safely without risking sensitive information. Studies predict more AI data will be synthetic in the future. Synthetic data is cheaper and faster to produce than collecting real data, and it avoids privacy risks. However, it might not always accurately reflect real-life situations. There's also a need to update laws and privacy rules to handle synthetic data properly

Echo chambers are the isolated places where one gets to hear only what one is in agreement with, for example, due to the bias of confirmation, and also from algorithms that have been set up. In companies, echo chambers could be at the top, within individual departments, or part of the overall culture.

Two key reasons the average driver did not rapidly switch to electric: prices were too high, and there were not enough plug-in charging stations to power them.
Now with AI, companies have tremendous hype. But business leaders need realistic plans. Achieving true AI benefits happens slowly after thorough, gradual integration.

AI makes many hopes too high. Companies must see the truth of what AI can do now versus later dreams. Run small tests first. Ask experts for guidance from experience, and listen to lessons learned by peers using AI. Teach staff and investors what AI can achieve today; share realistic examples. Admit current weak spots like missing sarcasm. Set the right expectations on costs, speed of progress, and early mistakes. As an honest leader, show the technology as it is, no exaggeration. Can Artificial Intelligence (AI) replace Human Leaders in organisations?

AI can assist human leaders, but not replace them. Leading relies on human bonds - trust, inspiration, emotional connection. AI lacks these qualities. However, AI can provide data insights, automate tasks, and improve choices, freeing up leaders to focus more on strategy and people. The future is not humans versus machines in leadership, but rather synergizing the analytical skills of AI with the empathy, creativity, and inspiration uniquely human leaders bring.

With £100 million to address risks, the future with AI looks brighter than ever. New government plans seem to guide AI in a balanced way. Rules will develop carefully to allow progress while limiting risks. Training regulators on specific industries builds trust. Major research money shows commitment to responsible AI. Work Too Hard, Burn Too Fast: When Overwork Culture Meets New Workplace Tech
RSS feeds WordPress
February 07, 2024
Many workplaces now demand constant work with no rest. This “always on” culture is unhealthy and hurts performance. Researcher Malissa Clark closely studies work addiction harms in her book Never Not Working. She shows overwork ruins health while not even helping companies long-term.

At the same time, workplace AI promises big gains through automation. But toxic overwork culture clashes with adopting AI. Lacking balance and rest, staff burn out. They cannot gain new tech skills or lead AI humanely.

Companies that want AI success while allowing overwork, are going to cause their own failure. They drain worker health essential for AI guidance. With compassion and limits, people can thrive along with smart algorithms. Visionary bosses must rebuild culture for a bright future.

The Long Road from AI Hype to Reality

AI promises to keep outpacing reality. Leaders must balance hopes and hype with slow, careful progress. People need time to learn alongside technology. Sudden change risks failure.
Step-by-step training lets regular workers get comfortable with AI. Small successes build trust and skill.

Responsible leaders focus first on growing capability, not just rushing new tech. AI can positively transform business over time without the crash-and-burn hype cycles of the past.
But sustainable change comes through enabling people, not just systems. Progress matters more than predictions.

Reshaping Social Media: Stanford Research Supports Democratic Algorithms
RSS feeds WordPress
April 30, 2024
A Stanford study has proposed a different way of making the playing field more level by using something called a "???????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????."
This is a way to take some of the heated political feelings out of the mix while keeping democracy robust and not making users lose their interest.
The research could help lessen bias, fight false information, and break up echo chambers by showing a variety of views.
As important elections are coming, if these ideas were to be applied, they could change the way social media affects democracy and guide it to be embedded in new laws in places like the UK, US, and EU.

The AI Frontier: Navigating Growth, Bubbles, and Global Strategies (TWLR in press)
RSS feeds WordPress
August 16, 2024
In the research, the possibility of a bubble in AI is discussed, with reference to the three different contexts, namely: in US, UK and Europe.
According to it, the US seems to be more susceptible to such a case because of the high level of speculative investment, monopolization in the market as well as less stringent regulations. Conversely, the UK and Europe have chosen to be more prudent while adopting AI for practical purposes in sectors such as healthcare, finance and manufacturing.

This confirms that both these regions are safer when it comes to AI bubbles than America since they:
- Showcase varied AI markets
- Concentrate efforts on B2B artificial intelligence products
- Are more cautious due to stronger monitoring framework

It is these features that make progress of European and British industries based on AI more viable and less speculative than what has been happening in America at any given time.

Inclusive Innovation: Strategies to Mitigate Gender Bias in AI (WFR-in Press)
RSS feeds WordPress
July 24, 2024
There are significant challenges that arise from gender bias in this rapidly transforming industry, artificial intelligence . This is due to the fact that only 26% of women hold jobs in this field which results to occurrence of biases through the systems Intersectionality in most cases worsens these for women of color yet they remain invisible without doing so intentionally .
The respective solutions include having framework powered audit on prejudice as well as embracing IBM’s inclusive measures concerning programming language on Artificial Intelligence (AI);Goggle’s ethics regarding Fair AI works; Salesforce’s HR approach focusing on diversity; and finally but not least – continuous track by Microsoft on this matter. Consequently, the gender sensitivity within the development stages has appeared as one of the areas where such developments would be used as tools in promotion[2].Gender biased algorithms used by artificial intelligence lead to injustice against individual people and lose making possibilities due to the absence of viable options from competition as well as stagnant business productivity due to lack of trust among other companies.
Inventing impartial AI technologies is extremely important if justice and functionality are considered significant in their performance.

AI in Business: Crafting Sustainable Strategies Amidst Hype and Market Dynamics( WFR)
RSS feeds WordPress
June 30, 2024
AI in business is experiencing the highs and lows of a roller coaster, much like the dot-com and electric vehicle bubbles. Companies must be clear about strategies so as not to repeat past mistakes.
Indeed, it's a valid argument to urge caution by large firms in their AI investments and to start with small tests. On the contrary, SMEs need to focus on short-term applications for AI and work with experienced vendors. Both have to ensure ethical practices and transparency. First, AI will support noncritical areas and then move into critical ones. Balancing investments and maintaining ethical standards are the key features to ensure sustainability in the adoption of AI.

This is what I expressed in this paper/article published by The European Business Review.
I have highlighted the same enthusiasm for AI toward electric cars, and I wanted to share lessons related to the adoption.

The #itinfrastructure has ( should?) to be very efficient and placed right up front, where it is clear that digital design and ethics are considered.
Artificial intelligence should be better developed in such a way that it is #sustainable, and thus, the transformation will occur

Finally, this reflection, together with the hype insights during the time of the dot-com boom and now with AI, create a #wakeup call for humanity on the aversion of mistakes which still today reveal their effects and further #disruption for the businesses operating in those sectors and their customers/clients.

Cultivating Executive Trust in the Age of AI Governance ( In Press)
THE EUROPEAN BUSINESS REVIEW JOURNAL ( in Press)
January 15, 2024
The European Business Review has accepted our paper for publication in the Mar-Apr 2024 Edition.
The European Union, United States, and United Kingdom made rules about AI to make AI safer.
The rules aim to build trust but may also make companies less willing to use AI. More action is needed by companies beyond just following the rules. Companies need their own policies and training about AI. Leaders of companies should guide the culture and practices around using AI. AI systems should be developed and used in an ethical, transparent way that can be monitored. Employees should be allowed to oversee AI systems. Companies should work together with regulators on AI. While rules set the stage, what company leaders do and the company culture matter more. Progress requires a balanced approach to governing AI. Industry groups should cooperate to make AI guidelines. Rules don't mean companies should avoid AI - many rules actually help adopt AI, but rules alone don't ensure trust - company culture and policies also matter; company leaders promoting transparency, ethics and employee input build trust to adopt AI responsibly.

The New Leadership Model: The Rise Of New Roles For Leaders In The DEI World -California Management Review CMR ( in press)
RSS feeds WordPress
December 10, 2023
CRM has accepted our paper on new leadership roles to champion DEI. This paper argues that while diverse companies perform better, too many employees still feel excluded. It makes the case that leaders must step up and prioritise inclusion.
Promoting constant unlearning of biases and more inclusive mindsets is critical.
Rather than controlling power, leaders should create participatory roles where all voices shape decisions. Fun, story-based training can help value each person’s differences. Chatbots provide safe spaces to challenge outdated assumptions.

Executives should drive systemic change by modelling openness and realising biases affect behaviours Ultimately, leadership today means championing the message that every person’s talents enrich the whole.

The future lies with those leaders who build welcoming places where embracing diversity, fairness and inclusion makes people feel they belong.

Critical Issues AI Accountability Answered
California Management Review -CMR
November 06, 2023
AI is spreading rapidly, but who will pay the price when algorithms go rogue? With advanced systems operating independently, executives can't just pass the buck. Leaders must take responsibility through audits, oversight and explainability requirements. But opaque models and diffused accountability could erode public trust. Testing and strong governance can harness AI's potential while prioritizing transparency and accountability. Companies that fail to address emerging concerns around bias and discrimination risk a community backlash. It's time to implement policies that put people first.

5 Quotes
New Quote for my New Columnist's role with The Financial Business Review
RSS feeds WordPress
September 05, 2024
This quote can represent the transition from the GARTNER HYPE CURVE when we have left "the hype" level and are now in the Trough of Disillusionment.

Briefly, this phase normally manifests from users, in this case Companies, Users of the first phase of Hype ( excitement interest, investments, speculations) when the exaggerated expectations are disappointed by

low quality

low reliability

of solutions, both from AI core producers, start-ups with their tools and solutions core-products based.

In addition, there are still so many open issues which are not fixed by regulations or laws ( ethics, Privacy, deep-fakes, and this is not an exhaustive list, but I hope it can give an idea.).

For some generations, which have lived the period of the dot.com hype and consequent Bust Bubble

Baby Boomers - born around 1946-1964- during the bursting of the dot com bubble, a large number of them were already at their top positions as managers or in other senior level positions of the IT industry or finance or any other sector affected by the bubble’s effect.

2. Generation X—born between 1965 and 1980—During the dot-com bubble, they were mostly in their 20s until they were 35 years old. Many of them were either launching careers or working at this point and consequently had practical knowledge concerning the rise and fall of tech companies.

3. Older Millennials- born between 1981 and 1986- Some older millennials might have been teenagers or young adults during the dot-com crash, mainly if they were interested in technology since the trends used to exist at that time or had relatives directly affected by the stock market crash.

These generations ( I belong to baby boomers btw) are living this period not with caution but with fear and anxiety, something that doesn't help to examine investigate analyse and evaluate both opportunities, risks but mainly to postpone any of informed decision about the AI adoption to bring benefits to their Companies and employees.

My active role is to bring more elements with publishing in Academic - Busine/academic journals to support with factual evidence what AI can or can't do.
