I once met with a group of managers and we had what turned out to be a spirited conversation about why it makes sense for them to show members of their teams they care about and value them. One manager blurted, “I don’t have time to spoon-feed adults.” Another explained she was always told to get the work done, not care about people. She went on to say it sounds like she has to spend too much time caring about how people feel.
I often encounter various cultures that exhibit control in different ways. In some of these cultures, employees are exposed to autocratic leaders whose leadership style ensures these employees will not take initiative. In fact, in some highly controlled cultures, I have encountered leaders who go as far as saying “I don’t pay you to think, just do as you are told”. This sentiment is not always verbally expressed, it can be an unspoken rule.

The Trust Style Inventory (TSI) is a unique tool that measures how people trust. It is based on the principles of the Pillar of Trust (Part of the IFB℠ framework) and the 6 Seconds Emotional Intelligence Model.
