Getting D-to-C and Third Party to Work Together
TotalRetail
October 27, 2021
Gone are the days when retailers and brands could rationally fear one platform cannibalizing another. Conventional retail wisdom used to tell us that if a consumer was buying your brand in one place, they couldn’t possibly be learning about or buying from it in another, let alone during the same purchase journey. In today’s world, however, the smartest brands have wisened up to the fact that as long as a consumer is engaging with them, it doesn’t matter if that engagement happens on their own platform or via a third-party platform, as long as there’s data readily available to study afterwards.

On being "young" in the corporate world
LinkedIn
October 06, 2021
Let’s answer the question right now to keep you from distractingly wondering while you read how old I am. I will be 32 next month. How much credibility did I automatically lose when you read that number? Be honest. Throughout my career, I’ve repeatedly heard the classics- “you probably won’t understand this (insert pop culture pun or TV show character name drop) reference” and “you definitely weren’t around yet to know what I’m talking about here.” I unfortunately have gotten these comments from everyone- past peers, potential clients, and those interviewing me for various opportunities. It’s always said with a wink to the oldest colleagues in the meeting, or with a slight smirk to themselves, and they do genuinely seem harmless in nature. There’s certainly no bad intention behind them, and they don’t jeopardize my view of the person saying them. But, invariably, these comments question my experiences (or what they consider to be a lack thereof), my credibility, and my expertise. Despite a decade of hearing these remarks, they do still occasionally disarm me of confidence.

A Ranking of the Retailers Providing the Most Connected Shopping Experiences
TotalRetail
March 01, 2021
Consumer behaviors in retail are especially interesting in that they’re often so routinized and sticky. Major shifts in shopping trends and expectations require either earth-shattering industry innovation or a completely life-changing cultural event. Unless consumers’ lifestyles are greatly impacted in some way, their shopping habits remain just that — habits. Though many retailers had begun offering curbside pickup; buy online, pick up in-store (BOPIS); and other connected experiences, consumer interest was minimal. It cost more energy to work these models into our lifestyles than it did to keep shopping channels vertically compartmentalized out of sheer repetition-inspired convenience.
