Wherever You Go, There You Are: Becoming the Best Version of You
LinkedIn
April 25, 2023
I first heard this phrase from my second father, Jerry, decades ago. I remember rolling my eyes and thinking, “well, duh, where else would I be?” A man with deep conviction about going all-in with whatever he was doing, Jerry is a model for resilience, devotion, and persistence. So much so, he would repeat this phrase from time to time, until I finally asked him what it meant. He responded by repeating the phrase. Honestly, it was a bit frustrating. If he kept repeating it, obviously it was important, right?

Seeing Opportunities: What's Luck Got to do With It?
LinkedIn
March 16, 2023
Sometimes it feels like good luck is only bestowed on others and we are left asking ourselves, “why not me?” We see others reaping the rewards of being in the right place, at the right time: choosing the lane that is moving faster in rush hour traffic; winning big at the slot machine you just finished playing; or walking up to check out at the grocery store just as another cashier opens in lane 7.

A change of scenery today.
LinkedIn
September 11, 2022
Final editing process underway. I am enjoying the company of the various background noises at my local Panera Bread this morning. Exactly what I need to give me the spark to complete this pivotal step and launch my book Growth Point. this A few patrons stopped and said hello as they passed. A few others commented on my “office” for the morning, and another joked as he reminded me to stay focused and resist playing games on my phone. I started in the company of strangers and ended in the company of a community that provided the right ambiance to accomplish what I set out to do.

Leading with Empathy: Four Lessons from a Golden Retriever
LinkedIn
July 19, 2022
A couple of weeks back, I had a minor surgical procedure. Like most of its kind, I had to follow strict instructions the day before, including limitations on what I could drink and eat. I distracted myself with work for a while, and as the day progressed, I found myself very low on energy, suffering from nasty headache and overall, not feeling very well.

LinkedIn
June 29, 2022
Have you ever been asked “how are you” and get a sense that the one asking really doesn’t want to know? Have you asked this question only to have the topic that is top of mind for you ready to go? Finally, we ask and hear “good… fine… ok…” and suspect we are not getting to the truth?

Our "Tells" and How They Can Impact Others
LinkedIn
May 31, 2022
I was talking with a dear friend of mine about challenges I have been facing recently. After he provided very sound advice, I said, “I hear you.” He then paused and responded, “wow, ok” proceeding to explain how it came across to him. I learned these words can send the message: “thanks, but no thanks,” “I am brushing you off,” “I am dismissing your point of view.” And the way I responded showed I was not "hearing him."

What Music Teaches Us About Leading With A Growth Mindset
LinkedIn
December 19, 2021
I was visiting my mom and stepfather not long ago. My mom and I were chatting on the couch and as always, she showed genuine interest in what I do. I was sharing with her some articles I wrote and my thoughts about coaching leaders and the concept of a growth mindset. I did not even consider at the time how this conversation would have helped me dig deeper into what it means to have a growth mindset.

The amplifier, as used in music, is an electronic device that raises the volume of audio signals. It does this by increasing the power of the signal, providing a deeper tone so that a note, voice, or instrument takes the front stage. And depending on what the listener wants to experience; we can amplify certain sounds above others.

The same holds true for how we build our self-awareness. We use various tools to help us amplify why we do what we do, so the sounds that were in the back or side stage become center. When we pursue self-awareness with the intent to amplify, we draw attention, stop and listen, and decide how it will help us achieve what we envision
