Keeping Pace with the Progressives

September 2022
The world of work has fundamentally changed.
Future Work Scenarios 22 (FWS22) provided a valuable opportunity to hear from the ‘Progressives’, a group of companies who, when faced with the challenges, opportunities and risks of the pandemic, rapidly innovated their talent operating models and committed to growing faster and stronger with their workers.
The Progressives now enjoy a growth dividend – they are growing at 4x the rate of their peers. FWS22 showed that the Future of Work can provide a framework through which companies can shield their workforces from economic insecurity, skills obsolescence and social injustice. For the Progressives, doing good proved to be good business too.

Ideation: the next paradigm of work?
LinkedIn
November 08, 2020
Ryan, Tomer, Jeff, Satya - I've long been inspired by LinkedIn and Microsoft's commitment to global economic empowerment. Reading Dan Susskind's masterful book, A World Without Work, prompted me to think about a future of work where jobs and labor markets as we know them today are at the very least supplemented by alternative sources of income - and it's true that supplemental activity may to some extent be dependent upon the 'Big Society' that Dan suggests; however I've pondered whether a more purposeful way to grow the global economy might concern innovation?

Three A's of elite teaming. Insights every much as useful to the #workplace as to a rowing boat.
Do we kick off new projects by aligning on team strengths rather than the tasks at hand? Do we spend enough time reflecting on #team performance, especially good #performance?

Do we need a more positive outlook on Generative AI at work?
LinkedIn
June 30, 2023
In short:
- Huge value is at stake in knowledge work - up to $4.4T in customer operations, marketing, software engineering and R&D.
- We've heard that before, what's different? Individual value can be connected to organisational value very quickly - and when it is, organisations are 5.9x more likely to derive significant financial benefits.
- What's in it for workers? 3.4x greater job satisfaction, through giving time back into creative/innovative/strategic work.
- How can we take advantage of the opportunity? Managers should: promote trust, mandate use, be transparent, align individual and organisational value.

Is work as human-centric as we now need it to be?
LinkedIn
May 25, 2023
My overriding reflection on FWS23 is that we need to preserve and enhance what is most human about work. 'How we work' is now the dominant consideration when thinking about the future of work.
