How can Artificial Intelligence Influence Education?
LinkedIn
January 22, 2020
AI is transcending and disrupting industries across the line by transforming and challenging the conventional methods. AI has enormous role in the evolution of the educational system and the educational experience of the future. The ability to sift through the complexities of interpreting and processing enormous amounts of unstructured data, gives AI an important role in modifying and revolutionizing the educational system. The fact that we are at the narrow phase of AI should not anchor us from the enormous potential AI has once it has reached the General AI phase. AI has the ability to drastically change the educational system as we know it today and transform how the learning content is delivered resulting in a better personalized and adaptive experience that aligns with the required outcomes.

Innovation Lessons from Nature
LinkedIn
May 11, 2019
There is an abundance of synergy between nature and business models. Nature tends to favor equilibrium. Technologies and societal evolution that go against the underlying rules of nature, will not last and will inevitably collapse. To elucidate this connection between nature and technology, I want to discuss some lessons from nature, and how they can offer the key to design, interpret and make sense of the technological and business models of the future. And most importantly, how to remain relevant in an ever-changing landscape.

The role of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy on the Future of the Trucking Industry
LinkedIn
September 27, 2018
The trucking industry is considered to be the lifeblood of the U.S. economy. The industry is responsible for most freight transportation over land. Over 70% of all the freight moved in the U.S. is moved on trucks with over 3.5 million truck drivers and billions of gallons of fuel. The trucking industry expect many drivers to retire in the next two decades, and has been struggling to replenish the aging population of drivers with new ones to join the industry. Trucks represent about 5% of the vehicle population in the United States, but consumes approximately 20% of total transportation fuel. The American Trucking Association indicates that the trucking industry spent $105.2 billion buying diesel fuel in 2015. Experimental driverless trucks have already been taking place in the US. It is expected that a large penetration of this technology to take place in the next decade. Recently Tesla unveiled a new prototype for a battery-powered, almost self-driving semi-truck. The new prototype is supposed to be more efficient and cheaper to run than conventional trucks. Other concepts and technologies are expected in the market soon.

Are we Ready for Driverless Cars?
LinkedIn
May 04, 2016
One morning while picking up a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop in Mountain View, I came across this odd looking car with several electronic components attached to it. Looking closely, I came to realize it was one of the driverless cars that drove through the local streets fine-tuning its algorithms and vetting the technology for a not so distant future rollout. At that moment I realized we are at the forefront of a paradigm shift in the transportation sector.

BetweenBrains: Taking Back our AI Future
Amazon
May 07, 2020
AI is a present reality: we live at the threshold of an AI-dominated era. AI is more than a Technology wave. In the 21st century and beyond it is the very core source of power that fuels politics, business, and society: our minds, our work, and our homes. AI also rewrites the rules and forces us to lose no time in rethinking fundamental questions of our humanity. Our human brains will soon be required to adapt at hyper speed to a new paradigm of omnipresent machine intelligence. We all have to deal with both its opportunities and threats in a conscious manner. Presently AI obscurity, hypotheticals, hype, and hysteria are aggravating problems of increasingly polarized and disconnected societies. However, whose image AI development will take and how the AI Age will be shaped is still in the hands of informed and clear-sighted citizens and leaders. The authors undertook the task of making sense of AI, especially its impact on the present and the near future for responsible readers worldwide.

Characterization and anti-Aspergillus flavus impact of nanoparticles synthesized by Penicillium citrinum
ElSEVIER
October 31, 2016
This work was conducted to evaluate the ability of grape molding fungus; Penicillium citrinum to synthesize silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). The potency of biosynthesized Ag NPs was checked against the aflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus var. columnaris, isolated from sorghum grains. Biosynthesized Ag NPs were characterized and confirmed in different ways. X ray diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and optical absorption measurements confirmed the bio-synthesis of Ag NPs. The in vitro antifungal investigation showed that biosynthesized Ag NPs were capable of inhibiting the growth of aflatoxigenic A.

An investigation of the peening effects on the residual stresses in friction stir welded 2195 and 7075 aluminum alloy joints
Elsevier
June 01, 2009
surface treatment processes including laser and shot peening were applied to friction stir welded samples fabricated using aluminum alloys (AA) 2195 and 7075. Surface residual stress measurements on these samples were acquired using X-ray diffraction. Measurements of the through thickness bulk residual stresses were obtained using the contour method. The deepest compressive residual stresses were obtained with multiple layers of laser peening, and increased proportionally as the number of peening layers increased for AA 2195. For AA 7075, little change was noticed in the residual stresses as the number of peening layers increased. Interestingly, laser peening was shown to have less of an effect on residual stress near the edges of the weld joint where significant softening occurred.

Fatigue crack growth performance of peened friction stir welded 2195 aluminum alloy joints at elevated and cryogenic temperatures
ElSEVIER
May 04, 2009
The effects of various surface treatments on fatigue crack growth and residual stress distributions in friction stir welded 2195 aluminum alloy joints were investigated. The objective was to understand the degree to which residual stress treatments can reduce fatigue crack growth rates, and enhance fatigue life of friction stir welded components. Specimens were fabricated from 12.5 mm thick 2195-T8 aluminum plate, with a central friction stir weld along their length. Residual stresses were measured for three specimen conditions: as-welded (AW), welded then shot peened (SP), and welded then laser peened (LP). Crack growth rate tests were performed in middle-cracked tension specimens under constant amplitude load for each of the three conditions (AW, SP, LP) and at three temperatures (room, elevated, and cryogenic). At room and elevated temperature, crack growth rates were similar in the AW and SP conditions and were significantly lower for the LP condition. At cryogenic temperature, it was difficult to discern a trend between residual stress treatment and crack growth rate data.

Surface roughness and friction coefficient in peened friction stir welded 2195 aluminum alloy
ElSEVIER
March 30, 2009
The tribological properties of friction stir welded 2195 aluminum alloy joints were investigated for several laser- and shot-peened specimens. The first portion of this study assessed the surface roughness changes at different regions of the weld resulting from the various peening processes and included an atomic force microscopy (AFM) study to reveal fine structures. The second portion investigated the friction characteristics for various conditions when slid against a 440C ball slider. Shot peening resulted in significant surface roughness when compared to the unpeened and laser-peened samples.
