My name is Tony Koval, and I’m excited to be part of this community. I currently live in São Paulo (Brazil) and am raising three children. For 15 years, I’ve been working on corporate culture, employer branding, candidate experience management, and HR communications. Since 2023, a large part of my work has involved AI and generative agents; I build them to meet client needs and support their implementation. I’m a resident at Distrito, the largest genAI lab in Latin America, and I teach a course on neural networks in business. You’ve probably come across the phrase “proficiency in AI tools” in a job description before, haven’t you? It reminded me of the early 21st century, when job postings on school bulletin boards sought people with “PC proficiency.” I suspect employers expect applicants to be experts in low-code tools and to be able to “vibe-code” a prototype within an hour. From the applicant’s perspective, however, the reality is likely quite the opposite.

Everyone and their mother is talking about agent-based AI these days: how to implement it, how to configure it. However, the vast majority of businesses are still taking a wait-and-see approach to the technology and aren’t rushing to be at the forefront. At the “Jornada de Inteligência Artificial” conference, representatives from the CIESP industrial association presented survey data on how companies view AI adoption. I find this an interesting snapshot of a state with a population of 44 million—essentially the size of many countries. So this data can be extrapolated to other regions.

Like almost any technology, AI is no longer the exclusive domain of corporations with large implementation budgets (though this shift happened much more quickly than with the telephone or the internet). Now the entire stack of AI tools is available to a startup founder or the director of a small agency. However, the abundance of AI tools can trap you in a mental rut of chaotic actions. When a marketer generates images, and a manager writes emails to clients using neural networks—that’s not digital transformation, but an imitation of frantic activity.

The discussion on this topic is moving in two directions: how AI will replace employees, and how each employee will be assigned their own AI agent (or even several). I would suggest looking at the issue from a different perspective: which employees will interact with these AI agents?
