Birkan Atlamaz is R&D Electrical-Electronic Systems Director and Vehicle Cybersecurity Manager at Anadolu Isuzu, part of Anadolu Group, based in Istanbul. He runs a team of more than 90 engineers and has carried the cybersecurity mandate alongside it since May 2023 — two roles that, on paper, sound separate but in a commercial vehicle OEM end up feeding each other constantly.
His path to that seat wasn't a straight line up one ladder. He joined Anadolu Isuzu in October 2013 as a Senior Engineer, moved through Truck/Pickup Team Lead, then Chief Engineer covering EE, software and mechanical scope together, then R&D Manager for EE, before landing in the current dual-director position in August 2023. Before Isuzu, he spent five years at BMC as an E-E Design Engineer and Group Lead, led a project at Nesan in early 2013, and did a stint at MEXT Consulting working on EV, autonomous vehicle and MaaS localization with the World Economic Forum. Somewhere further back, 2006 to 2007, he was a Lieutenant during his military service — not something that shows up in the technical CV, but it's there.
Technically, his ground is vehicle cybersecurity — ECE R155 and R156, ISO/SAE 21434, TARA methodology, CSMS — plus EV systems, autonomous driving, V2X and C-ITS, CAN and Ethernet vehicle architecture, AUTOSAR, and connected vehicle / IIoT work. He holds nine utility model patents, all from 2016, spanning battery safety, driver assistance, vehicle security and remote systems. In January 2026 he completed a doctoral thesis at Universidad Azteca — "Empathetic Leadership in Resource-Constrained Environments," a mixed-methods study in the automotive OEM sector, published open access on Zenodo. The core finding: empathy correlates with job satisfaction at r=0.62, with performance mediation at ?=0.38. The diploma itself is still pending, which is a bureaucratic detail rather than a research one.
He's an ERA Subject Matter Expert (credential EX2019D356330) and contributes to the Autoware Foundation's Bus ODD work — two of the more international markers on a résumé otherwise built mostly in Turkey. Domestically, he sits on the OSD ITS Committee, is active in ITS Türkiye, OTEP, IAEC's advisory board, HTK, and TTGV's #iklimlab, and advises university programs at Gaziantep and Avrasya Elektro Mobilite Derne?i.
2026 has been a heavy speaking year. Busworld Turkey in June, a Gölcük vocational school EV workshop in May, the Otomotiv Yaz Kamp? SDV session in July, and a confirmed cost-optimization panel slot at Automotive Cyber Security Europe in Munich this October. He mentors through TÜS?AD's youth program and ?stanbul Teknokent's Mentortech, and mentored startups through both legs of Startup World Cup Turkey. His LinkedIn writing — the "Araçtan Fabrikaya" series among it — has built past 23,000 followers and crossed 2.8 million impressions, with MIL-STD reference posts and CAN 120? questions turning out to be the two formats people actually stop scrolling for.
