Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her maiden budget on 7th July, laid down proposals to bolster MSMEs and accelerate adoption of digital payments. The union budget had a proposal, explicitly dedicated, to discourage business payments in cash and levy 2% TDS on cash withdrawal exceeding Rs. 1 crore in a year from a bank account was made to increase tax compliance and shore up revenues for the government. This would create a legitimate need for businesses to embrace digital payments.
