Ux OF CASH AND BUTTER SMELTING PAV BHAJJIS
linkedin
January 30, 2019
An emphatic yet breezy walk along ‘Marine drive’, towards the northern end, will take you to Girgaon Chowpatty, a top-billed must-see food joint showcasing the local ‘aamchi mumbaiyaa’ (Mumbai’s very own) street food. Notwithstanding the absolutely dirty, littered beach, the food stalls at the south end are inviting, and mesmerizing. The beautiful view of the Queen’s necklace by night (can’t we call it Devi ki mala or some such, after all the Queen left us long ago) lights up the whole experience. Do muster the courage to savor mouth-watering street food like bhelpuri, sev puri, batata puri, cold pani puri, tender coconuts, chaat, kala khatta, dry fruit kulfi, pav bhajji, and the too-good-to resist falooda.

Alanganallur Jallikattu & Opportunities for start-ups
linkedin
January 17, 2019
'Allanganallur Jallikatu' is a world-famous bull-taming sport played at Palamedu, Madurai on the 3rd day of the 4-day harvest festival of Pongal (Sankranti). History has it that the sport has continued for generations from 400-100 year BC (approximately 2000 years old) from the times of the great Chola Dynasty. It used to be called ‘Eruthazhuvuthal’, meaning embracing the bull. Rules are simple, raging bulls (mainly kangayam or Bos indicus breeds) are set free into an open arena, where bull fighters try to get on its hump, and tame it by holding on to the animal for at least 30 seconds or 15 meters. On average 600-800 bull tamers, and 1200-1400 bulls register for this annual event. Cash prizes & gifts are awarded on the spot to winners, as bulls continue to be escorted into the ‘Vaadivasal’ (doorway). It is a grand spectacle for a cross section of viewers the world over, especially discerning foreigners who flock to these venues, unfailingly each year.

That 12 digit unconstitutional number!

My dad & I were intrigued about a recent TN gazette notification which read 'Sankranti freebies from TN govt for all Smart Ration card holders - Rs.1000, free dhoti/saree, ration – sugar/rice, 1 raw sugarcane, nuts/dried grapes (traditional offering to the sun god)'. Hearing this, we paid a visit to the nearest PDS (fair price shop) to experience firsthand #digitalindia in semi-urban India (Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu), and observed the following.
