Designing an Archival System for Long-Term Fuel System Data Analysis

Fuel stations generate continuous transaction data, and keeping all of it in primary storage raises cost and retrieval latency. This paper proposes a tiered archival system using metadata indexing and MongoDB TTL indexes and sharding, moving data older than three months into an archival repository that stays accessible on demand for historical analysis, compliance and anomaly detection.

Using MongoDB Sync to Replace Kinesis for Real-Time Fuel Data Update

Fuel controllers stream transaction data to the cloud, and routing it through AWS Kinesis and Lambda adds processing stages, latency and operational cost. This paper tests synchronizing local MongoDB instances inside the fuel controllers directly to cloud-hosted MongoDB instead, removing the event-driven computation layer.

This paper aggregates fuel transaction data and ATG levels in Redis, compares dispensed volume against the tank level recorded after each transaction, and triggers an AWS Lambda function to halt pump transactions and alert staff when the figures do not reconcile.

IoT-enabled dispensers and automated tank gauge systems widen the attack surface at a fuel station, exposing it to unauthorised access and data breaches. This paper puts a custom authorizer Lambda function in AWS in front of those devices so each one is authenticated before it reaches AWS services, alongside encryption, role-based access control and JSON Web Token based authentication.
