Blockchain Governance Models: Insights for Enterprises
University of Arkansas
February 19, 2019
This white paper aims to answer the question: “What are emerging models and practices for shared governance over blockchains?” A blockchain application is a software application that maintains a distributed, immutable record of sequenced transactions (called a digital ledger) secured by a peer-to-peer network of independent computer nodes. While most innovation decisions happen within the boundaries of the firm, shared blockchain applications require coordination across firm boundaries. This requires a different approach to software governance because no single entity or individual can unilaterally make decisions regarding rule changes, code base upgrades, or record altering. This white paper is developed to help managers and developers think through, and assess, shared governance options even as they continue to evolve.

5 Trends Emerge in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies, 2018
Gartner
December 08, 2018
Waiting curbside for an Uber or Lyft driver might one day be the old-fashioned way of getting around. Instead, passengers will need to head to the helipad to catch a ride from a flying autonomous vehicle. Not only will these future taxis take to the sky to potentially reduce traffic, they’ll operate independently of a human pilot.
Realistically, the world (and the technology) aren’t quite ready for autonomous flying taxis. The first challenge will be mastering the autonomous technology, which is still at least five to 10 years away. According to a recent test by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, today’s autonomous vehicle makers Level 2 driver assistance are not capable of driving safely on their own. The production vehicle that can safely drive itself anywhere, anytime isn’t available at the local car dealer and won’t be for quite some time.

Office Business Applications: Building Composite Applications using the Microsoft platform
Microsoft Press
July 01, 2007
Foreword
Companies are adopting service orientation as a design principle to drive enterprise agility and business innovation. With service-oriented architecture (SOA), they can efficiently respond to business changes and evolve their IT systems rapidly. Service orientation is about decomposing the IT assets into easily consumable services. A composite application is the primary vehicle to deliver business value through service orientation and is a great way to aggregate these services to support cross-functional processes. Theoretically, composite applications allow for these services or components to be mixed and matched like blocks, allowing developers to customize applications to evolving enterprise needs relatively easily.
With the release of 2007 Microsoft Office System clients, servers, and tools, Microsoft delivers a true application platform that can be used to create collaborative, role-based, easy-to-use solutions that extend the traditional LOB applications and enterprise systems. Not only has Microsoft significantly improved the capabilities and tools for personal and business productivity, but it has also invested significantly in the extensibility and programmability of the 2007 Microsoft Office System. Microsoft calls these solutions Office Business Applications (OBAs) and recently announced the technology to design and develop OBAs.
Open CA Level 3: Distinguished Chief Architect
Gartner
August 11, 2011
Open CA Certification – is primarily concerned with the competencies that an architect possesses. In other words, how an architect thinks through solving a set of broad highly impactful enterprise problems to realize business value. For Open CA certification, it is not needed to be TOGAF certified or even know the TOGAF framework , that is one of many validated frameworks. One must prove to be able to have done architectural work in real life situations for many years. Open CA certification is very much like PMI certification for project managers that require detailed documentation, letters verifying your experience and a set of interviews to validate what was documented.

Microsoft Releases Financial Services OBA Component Library, Giving Firms a Head Start in Creating Applications Built on the 2007 Microsoft Office System
Microsoft
March 12, 2008
Helping financial services firms solve real-world problems in the areas of interoperability, extending legacy systems and creating compelling user interfaces, Microsoft Corp. today released the Financial Services Office Business Applications (OBA) Component Library at the sixth annual Microsoft Financial Services Developer Conference.
Microsoft OBAs are composite applications built upon the 2007 Microsoft Office system, utilizing the familiar and easy-to-use interfaces of Microsoft Office products and connecting to additional Microsoft technologies (such as Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server) or other back-office systems. The resulting solution is built to model how people work within financial services firms day-to-day, integrating with existing workflows, reducing training efforts and trimming development time.
Loan Origination Reference Architecture
Mike J. Walker
August 02, 2007
The Loan Origination Reference Architecture shows how to build architectures that unify people, process and technology through familiar Office 2007 user interfaces. It includes an architecture framework for lending with an Office Business Application based scenario and BizTalk “MISMO” Accelerator for the loan origination process in banking. OBAs are an emerging class of business applications that connect existing line-of-business (LOB) systems with the people that use them every day through the familiar user interface of Microsoft Office, bridging the gap between how business process systems work, and how people work. OR-LOS will help customers simplify document management, increase integrated workflow, improve efficiency and ultimately lower time-to-market offering for faster turn-around and reduced cost.
Solutions that leverage the OR-LOS have the following benefits:
Empowers Business Users to make informed lending decisions
Using familiar Office tools for common business tasks (e.g., Outlook or Excel)
Provided with a extensible lending platform that will reduce the development cycle
Lending technology consolidation strategies can be derived

Supply Chain Wizard Podcast
March 31, 2024
In this episode of SCW for Pharma, Evren Ozkaya welcomes Mike Walker, Microsoft's Executive Director of Global Healthcare and Life Sciences Digital Strategy, to explore why pharma companies are slow in embracing digitalization and ways to help them catch up. They delve into strategies for adapting factories to the production of the growing market of emerging biologics, cell-gene therapies, and mRNA-based drugs, expected to reach nearly 1 trillion dollars by 2030. Mike estimates that only 1%-3% of companies fall under the fully digitized factory of the future category, highlighting the industry's digitization challenges. They explore factors contributing to this lag, including risk management, regulatory compliance, and entrenched status quo, exacerbated by uncertainty on where to begin digital transformation. Mike presents his top 10 supply chain trends for the life sciences industry and discusses the development of a digital ecosystem platform to enable various organizational departments to utilize high-quality data, feeding into high-performing AI and digital twin models.

May 15, 2023
Supply chain is a complicated industry that typically requires highly trained engineers to oversee, but pharmaceutical (pharma) supply chains take complexity to another level. As well as the usual litany of supply challenges, pharma has distinct requirements on the handling of materials like a cold chain element, and also faces the perils of product recalls and compliance issues, because the field of medicine is just about the most regulated sector there is.
And then of course there’s the added pressure of how catastrophic any delays might prove, because the medicines being shipped are critical for ensuring patients have access to the medicines they need to maintain their health, or even keep them alive.
While there is a variety of permutations, the most prevalent today is the small molecule pharma supply chain. This chemical-based drug will typically begin with the sourcing of raw materials – active pharmaceutical ingredients – used to manufacture drugs. The manufacturing process involves several stages: formulation, quality control, packaging and labelling.
Once the drugs are ready, they are shipped to warehouses or distribution centres, from where they are distributed to healthcare providers, pharmacies and hospitals.
