Experience Management – Making P2P “Pleasure to Purchase”
Art of Procurement
September 29, 2021
Experience is all the rage. Many advertising campaigns talk about “experiencing peace… tranquillity… adventure…” and many of us have decided to stop shopping or eating at a place because of the experience we had or because of what we have heard about others’ experiences.
Procurement With Purpose: The Way To Do Business
Procurement and Supply Australasia (PASA)
August 03, 2021
COVID-19 has emphasised the need for transparency and sustainability in supply chains. It has brought forth the necessity for real-time information across business networks to forecast and interpret the impact of unpredictability and ethically deal with future challenges.
Clearly there has been lots going on that has forced companies to look at inventory levels, do we have too much, do we have not enough. To be fair it’s not brought about solely by the pandemic, but it’s probably been brought more to light because of it.
Those regular readers of mine realize that sometimes I reference song titles ... a lot.. Sorry!
Once again, it’s a report filled month! This month there have been three standouts for me. I’m always a fan of Andrew Bartolini, and its good to read the State of procurement report again. There’s also an interesting Gartner report around navigating supplier management. Supplier Management has never been more important than right now, finally is Sustainability the next paradigm shift for procurement? Well the Oliver Wyman report thinks so, it likens it to when Total Quality Management (TQM) shifted thinking previously. Its an interesting report. As always, love your feedback and comments, and ill be back next month with another report and or article review!
It’s been a busy couple of months from a research report perspective this month, with quite a few 2021 reports being launched, sol I thought id write a blog to review a couple of them and see how they agree or disagree with each other.
There’s been some interesting finance and payables reports and news that id like to reflect on.

The third part on our series of looking at things that are forgotten or misunderstood is all about sustainability. I'd read many articles which had suggested that during the height of the pandemic sustainability had been forgotten about. Id also read many articles taking the alternative viewpoint, that it had made us more aware. Sustainability is such a broad area that it can seem daunting to some, or for others mean to focus on the environmental aspects alone.

Thanks to all for the positive feedback on the initial procurement revisited blog 2 weeks ago, where we take a look at the overlooked, misunderstood, forgotten about or tried and failed aspects of procurement. Today's blog and video is all about Risk.
Inspired by this back in 2020 (remember then!) I had a number of conversations with procurement and technology leaders about topics in procurement that may not be front of mind for people, ie maybe they were overlooked, misunderstood, forgotten about or tried and failed.

I’ve seen several critical trends that I believe procurement will pursue in the next few years. Today, I’m concentrating on the top three. These are in addition to the procurement table stakes1 -- namely cost and supplier management.

All innovation comes from suppliers. That statement comes from Ford and is taken from a Procurement leaders article called the Levers of value. In procurement we constantly seek how we understand and manage our relationships with suppliers, knowing how we sit int their value matrix is essential for our planning.
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) traces the first uses of the terms ‘digitization’ and ‘digitalization’ in conjunction with computers to the mid-1950s. In the OED, digitization refers to “the action or process of digitizing; the conversion of analogue data (esp. in later use images, video, and text) into digital form.” Digitalization, by contrast, refers to “the adoption or increase in use of digital or computer technology by an organization, industry, country, etc.”

Scaling procurement impact

We start by talking more broadly about capability development, before narrowing in on capability frameworks. A good capability framework is as much of an art than a science, they can be too simplistic, but more often than not get way too complex to be actionable. In our discussion, we explore how to create an effective capability framework that is integrated into the employee assessment process and mapped into the job roles across your procurement group.
