A recent MIT Report classified Enterprise AI as a failure. Many, however, argued that it is not; it is actually a great progress as more people use ChatGPT than enterprises offer on their side for their employees. It's still a failure, and teams just help themselves, isn't it? Moreover, Prompts, Chatbots, Co-Pilots, Agents, and other tools that are used by individual employees have no characteristic, indicating a mission-critical Enterprise AI.
We do nothing but Enterprise AI. It's all we offer and all we focus on. My experience over the last 12 months suggests that enterprise leaders require significantly more to effectively implement AI within their organizations. And it has nothing to do with technology or technological advancements, but rather with the issues enterprises face, such as compliance, organizational structures, operational excellence, and so on. Building Enterprise AI around those topics is a gigantic challenge, but worth addressing.
A year ago or so, I wrote a post about "Harnessing the power of Shadow AI". And yes, it is a good thing and it's powerful. However, at the same time, we discussed a major project with one of the large insurance companies, focusing on measurable productivity and managing AI Assets, which was not on their menu list. So a hybrid of let go and orchestrating what's there was the solution in this case.
Calling Enterprise AI successful today is really motivational, but it also makes people believe it's all good what they do today - BUT IT IS NOT, and that is terribly DANGEROUS. Why is China so far ahead of everybody else? They utilize Enterprise AI to a degree that most people in the West can only dream about. That is why we focus so much energy on Operational Excellence - because with the operational quality in the West, we will soon be digested by others, and embargoes, badmouthing, and ignoring only make it worse.
The most highly complex software in the world originated in Europe, and so is Enterprise AI. Amadeus (ES), Asseco (PO), Atento (ES), BlueCallom (CH), Dassault (FR), Hexagon (SE), IFS (SE), Micro Focus (UK), Proximus SpearIT (BE), Sage (UK), SAP (DE), Temenos (CH), Visma (NO), Yandex (RU). Most are even known as US companies, but they are still registered and headquartered in Europe. We were the first worldwide Enterprise AI company. And in the four years we evolved, we learned a lot. Yes, we are facing a geopolitical crisis, drama, and fear like our generation has never experienced before. But we also know this beautiful word RESILIENCE.
Agentic Enterprise AI = Operational Excellence.
Ramping 25% - 50% productivity, and using the productivity gain for growth, expansion, Innovation, workflow optimization, employee satisfaction - all together operational excellence, and not for short-term profitability, we will continue to compete on the highest level and keep the employees instead of igniting yet another drama and fear by firing them.
Every minute, every day, throughout the year, your teams work on their computers, entering data or retrieving data in various ways, is a completely manual process. There is NO intelligence or support from the computer. Sticking Bots, Co-Pilots, or Agents on top of those systems is like welding wings on a bus and hoping it can fly. While it may seem obvious to reduce team size due to productivity concerns, we leverage Human Intelligence Augmentation to a degree that allows you to accomplish far more with what you have.
It all changes when you consider Enterprise AI as a holistic and mission-critical solution for small, medium and large Companies. AI is no software, it is intelligence that you inject into processes that are no longer driven by linear, hard-coded software. Instead, it uses the access to our world's knowledge, composes solutions, answers, concepts, plans, makes decisions, ideates, constructs, reasons, and augments our human intelligence with unparalleled knowledge. Our breakthrough was the "Intelligence over Code" method, which finally drives Enterprise AI with Agentic IT.
I think Enterprise AI is not a failure - but it can't be built with Bots, Co-Pilots, or Agents. It requires a completely new architecture and thinking.
Happy Weekend
Axel
P.S.
AI TAXONOMY
Enterprise AI as a holistic and mission-critical solution for small, medium, and large Companies.
AI can accomplish a great deal on its own, yet we will still need to manage its assets, functionalities, usage, productivity gains, and more with human oversight. Information Technology (IT) will still require human oversight and management, and in the AI era, it shifts its focus from raw technology to Agentic IT.
Artificial Intelligence is yet another invisible level, like software was when it was introduced. Software is fixed, linear, rigid, and clearly defined, but it needs to be reworked with any changes in process flow, behavior, or other factors. AI is intelligent, can make decisions, reason the decision, learn, adapt, and even work autonomously when enabled. It does all that with just a tiny 0.00x% software and 99.99x% intelligent mechanism called LLM, GPT, LAM...
Ambitious and innovative employees consistently find ways to exceed expectations. They are starting to use AI in various ways, and nobody really knows. They drive productivity and even competitive advantages on their own and often share them with others. They do that in the shadow of the overall organizational complexity. This is primarily observed in organizations without an Enterprise AI implementation.
Coined by Douglas Engelbart in 1962, this was the dream that AI would augment human intelligence, not replace it. It became our mission to build HIA technology in a way that augments human intelligence, intuition, and sensitivity with Agentic AI. "Today, Agentic AI has already outpaced human intelligence in many ways. Together, they will always be stronger than any of them alone.
