Impact of Fintech Solutions on Traditional Banks by 2035: Qualitative e-Delphi Study

Traditional banks are brick and mortar financial institutions that offer services to consumers such as checking, savings, certificates of deposit accounts, lending products, mortgages, personal loans, and credit cards. Researchers have suggested that customers' attitudes about banks are changing as the demographics change to young and middle-aged people who want banks to operate faster, less expensively, and with more virtual services. Industry leaders have expressed concerns that traditional retail banks are not flexible enough to take full advantage of emerging technologies without significant changes.
The growth and expansion of Fintech have been continuous with the adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending, smart contracts, and machine learning have led to the digital transformation of financial services, modernization of financial architectures, new consumer and market behaviors, and the disruption of traditional banks service models and regulatory structures. It remains unclear to understand which innovations will be most relevant and their implications on financial services business models or the industry.
The eDelphi research study explores how Fintech solutions might affect traditional banking core functions such as payments, deposits, and lending by 2035. It focuses on industry experts' judgments and opinions on how Fintech solutions may support or disrupt the future of banking.
