Stop writing books nobody reads.

You deserve better, so does your reader...

I love showing smart consultants & experts how to turn their clever thoughts into valuable things

If thought leaders, consultants and authors turned their clever thoughts into valuable things (Minimum Valuable Assets®) more often they would have a massively unfair advantage. They would get useful feedback to create better products and services. They would be more visible, more frequently. They would be heard through the noise and get paid properly for their expertise.

Minimum Valuable Assets® allow you to monetise your thought leadership and productise your ideas.

Stop Selling Books Nobody Buys: Four effective strategies to use your business book to attract ideal clients on autopilot (without shouting "buy my book")
Intellectual Perspective Press
October 05, 2023
You've poured your heart and soul into crafting your masterpiece. Each word is a testament to sleepless nights and endless cups of coffee. But here's the twist: writing was just the beginning.

Ever felt that pang of disappointment? That sinking feeling when your book, your brainchild, sits unnoticed? You're not alone. Many authors, just like you, dream of readers magically discovering their work. Others? They're too scared to even whisper about their creation, fearing they'll sound like a broken record.

It doesn't have to be so hard. Stop selling the book. Sell the transformation.

I know you’re prepared to do what it takes because you’ve already done the incredible. You’ve achieved the seemingly impossible feat of crossing the brain-world barrier. You’ve wrestled ideas from your mind and fashioned them into a visible creation. Your book, your brainchild, now lives outside of your head for all to see. Here comes the challenging question: how am I going to get my book into the hands of the people who need it?

When you read "Stop Selling Books Nobody Buys," you'll learn how to:

Be brave and get your book, gently, into the hands of the people who need to read it
Confidently use your book to get access to other people's networks
Get beyond impersonal retail sales and make real connections, turning readers into clients
I want to convince you that selling your book one at a time is only one strategy for making an impact. There are three other strategies that you might not have thought about that could get you there faster and easier.

Stop writing books nobody reads: The dangerously effective way to write and publish a book that people read and refer
Intellectual Perspective Press
November 07, 2022
When you’re trying to reach your target audience effectively, nothing beats a well-written business book. But it’s also tough to get right. Poorly written business books litter the virtual bookshelves.
Your book needs to be so interesting the reader devours it, and then wants the next one.

As moreish as the next Netflix series.
Bitesize, useful, life changing content.
Atomic, valuable, business-growing books.
Built around your expertise and their most important problem.

After more than twenty years of helping clients turn their thoughts into things, coupled with my engineering background and love of constraints (not that kind!), I have come to the conclusion that the only way to turn your thoughts into things, and get your ideas out into the world is to:

Make the ideas atomic – the smallest workable unit (a Minimum Valuable Asset)
Have a proven system that works to produce the “thing” (this book for books)
Set a constraint – time, money, resources – and be accountable to the constraint
Iterate and improve yourself, as well as the process.

Many people don’t get their ideas turned into things (books written) because they skip an element in the process, reinvent the process or don’t even have a process to start with. When you have the process you can turn your thoughts into many different things. This book gives you the process so you can write your book that will be read and referred!
To write a book that people read & refer:

Make sure there's a business case before investing your time & money
Focus on what the reader needs to hear not what you want to say
Write value not volume
Use a framework for the process, not for the idea
Choose yourself, not the publisher
Produce a book that markets itself

You'll find all that and more inside...
Learn how to accomplish your author brand-building goals and create an outstanding book that is virtually guaranteed to be picked up, and read.

The Pink Guitar Problem
Intellectual Perspective Press
October 09, 2025
Why tools aren’t magic—but you might be.
Earlier this year, I was gifted a pink guitar. A digital acoustic wonder that promised to turn me into the kind of guitar player who actually plays the guitar.

Now, I already had a proper classical guitar. My lovely Alhambra. It’s serious. Wooden. Intimidating. Smells faintly of Spanish guilt and lost ambition.

But this new pink one, flipping heck, she’s gorgeous. She has apps. Lights. Backing tracks. She even talks to me. (Though not in Spanish. Yet.)

And for a week, I believed. I noodled. I strummed. I imagined future campfires and impromptu duets with imaginary friends.

Then, predictably, life. Work. Cats. Emails. Distraction. And the pink guitar became… furniture.

Here's what I realised (again):
I bought into the same fantasy I’ve watched others fall for a thousand times.

The “new thing” that will finally make the difference.

The course that’ll write the book for you.

The coaching that guarantees results.

The app that builds habits for you.

The AI that will sort your chaos.

But tools don’t change us.

We do the changing.

We do it slowly. Clumsily. Painfully. With sore fingertips and the occasional existential sigh.

It’s not the pink guitar that makes the music. It’s the calluses. The repetition. The showing up when it’s boring and no one is watching.

And sometimes, showing up requires a witness.

That’s where accountability comes in. Not the shouty, clipboard-waving kind. The kind that says: Did you turn the guitar on today? Or are we dusting it again?

This is not an anti-tool rant.

I love tools. I am a tool, professionally speaking.

But what I’ve learned (again, painfully, with my expensive pink prop), is that tools only work when we do.

They’re accelerants. Not replacements.

Multipliers. Not magicians.

So, the real question isn’t:

“Will this work?” It’s: “Will I work it?”
Today, I picked up the pink guitar again. I played a clumsy F chord (I have absurdly short fingers). My dog, Bonica, winced. One of my cats* left the room. But I smiled. Because I was playing. Not buying. Not planning. Not dreaming.

Just doing.

And that, in the end, is where the real magic lives.

Ciao for now, my pink guitar is calling me!

Debs

PS: Ready to actually do the thing? This September, I’m taking on three new accountability clients. It’s quiet, personal, no shouting. Just regular nudges, a bit of strategic sabotage, and someone who notices when your guitar is gathering dust. If you want to use me as your tool—send me a message. We’ll see if we’re a fit.

* One of my 30 cats. Yes, I am a crazy cat lady with a pink guitar!
