Giovanna Gonzalez

Founder at The First Gen Mentor

Greater Phoenix, Arizona, United States

As part of #TheGreatResignation, I quit a fulfilling career in investment management to pursue my true passion- teaching financial literacy and career readiness to young adults, specifically First Gen.

I do this two ways- as an educator at colleges and universities, and on TikTok where I reach a community of over 165,000+ (@thefirstgenmentor) with my educational & entertaining videos.

My qualifications include 10 years of experience in financial services and two years of teaching experience as a pro-bono financial educator at the YWCA of AZ. I'm also working on getting certified as a Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI).

If you're interested in having me teach at your organization, please visit my website thefirstgenmentor.com

Hi! My name is Gigi. As the oldest daughter of Mexican immigrants, I'm a proud first generation American, first generation college graduate, and first generation white collar professional.

When I graduated from college ten years ago, I was so excited to start a new chapter as a young professional- but not as excited about the accompanying $50,000 in debt from student loans and car debt.

I had no idea how to pay off the debt, build wealth, and move up the corporate ladder in my new career. I was overwhelmed. Although I love my parents and appreciate the sacrifice they made by bringing our family to this country, they did not have the financial means or the financial education to help me get started. They were immigrants just trying to survive in a new country. And as we all know, this stuff isn't taught in school! I was on my own.

Ten years later, I'm excited to share I'm completely debt free, have a net worth of $120,000+, have a fulfilling career in investment management, and am on track to retire early at the age of 45. Navigating post-college life as a first gen without any family resources was not an easy road, but I know from personal experience it can be done.

I'm here to show you how.
