Behind every innovation, there's a human being
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
July 20, 2025
My dear Wimbledon, this year I tuned in to watch you with a bit of sadness, knowing what was to come.

The line judges, those incredible, silent, poised custodians of the game, were officially gone. Replaced by Hawk-Eye Live, a system of high-speed cameras, their absence became one of the most talked-about aspects of the tournament.

And not for the right reasons. This moment at Wimbledon has changed the course of history. When technology begins to erase the people who helped shape the soul of a sport, we need to take a moment to remember why we play and why we watch in the first place.

If you can’t prove it’s yours, is it really?
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
July 13, 2025
Can I protect the work I've made with AI? It's a fair question, and what most people don't realise is that ownership in the AI space isn't guaranteed. Then again, is anything ever guaranteed in life?

In a piece I wrote last month, "Unpacking Digital Rights. Who Really Owns Your Digital Twin?" I looked at how digital identities are becoming commodities and who owns these digital versions of us.

Today, I want to zoom in on an equally important issue, which is AI and copyright. Who owns what? What can you protect? And what happens if you get it wrong?

The EU at 40: Balancing progress and responsibility
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
July 06, 2025
The EU turns 40. So what has it really done for tech and innovation?

This year, the European Union marks its 40th anniversary. That's four decades of collaboration, evolution, and shared ambition.

With 32 million enterprises operating across the Schengen area, the EU has quietly become one of the most influential ecosystems in the world. It may not always grab headlines like Silicon Valley, but its impact continues to grow.

In this article, I take a look at how the EU has supported technology over the past 40 years, where it has fallen short, and how it can lead the way in the years to come.

If trust is the currency of the future, how are you earning it today?
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
June 29, 2025
Let me start this week with a thought we cannot get away from. No one can deny that we're living in the most advanced era of human-machine collaboration we've ever seen. From enterprise automation to customer service, AI use is everywhere, and its growth is only accelerating.

Yet, with every new application, one question matters the most: can we trust it? This question links to the principle of transparency.

People First, Always. AWS and the GenAI Mindset That’s Shaping the Future
www.elisequevedo.com
June 19, 2025
If you want to future-proof your business, don’t just look at your tech stack; look at your people.

That’s the main lesson I took from AWS at London Tech Week 2025 (LTW). I’ve attended countless tech events over the years, but there’s something impactful about a global brand like Amazon Web Services (AWS) showing up with innovation and intention. The focus wasn’t just GenAI - which was the focus of 99% of LTW - it was GenAI with a human mindset.

London Tech Week - what’s possible when policy, technology, and people align?
www.elisequevedo.com
June 15, 2025
It was a busy week for the tech event landscape in Europe, with multiple events taking place and overlapping this week. London Tech Week and the AI Summit in London, VivaTech and Nvidia GTC in Paris, and the AWS Summit in Madrid, to name a few.

It's not often that I walk away from a major tech event with both excitement and a list of notes on what could’ve been better. But that’s exactly what happened after attending London Tech Week 2025.

From star-studded keynotes to bustling expo floors, this year’s edition had all the ingredients for a world-class experience. And yet, amid dazzling tech demos and powerful speeches, a few things missed the mark.

Unpacking Digital Rights. Who Really Owns Your Digital Twin?
www.elisequevedo.com
June 13, 2025
So, let's reflect here. How often are we giving up our digital rights? And what does it really mean when an app or activation asks for our photo, our likeness, or even lets us “create our digital twin”?

A look into the future with 6G
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
June 08, 2025
This week, I head over to London Tech Week to explore the cutting edge of innovation, but today, I want to take a moment to look further ahead. Not just to 2026 or 2027 but to the world of 2030 and beyond.

Because while most people are still getting used to 5G, the tech world is already building the next generation of 6G.

Now, I know what you might be thinking, "We just got 5G. Isn't it too soon?" But let me take you back just five years. It was the early days of the pandemic.

The world was panicking, and amid that chaos, some people were so confused and fearful of technology that they blamed 5G for the spread of COVID-19. They even went so far as to burn down 5G towers. Wild, right?

That wasn't centuries ago. That was 2020. Fast-forward to today. The same cycle is bound to repeat itself unless we start now by educating, preparing, and inspiring conversations about what 6G truly means.

Because five years go by in the blink of an eye. And the groundwork for 6G is already being laid.

Why Outdated Thinking Hinders Future Growth
www.elisequevedo.com
June 05, 2025
Every day, I see individuals and companies that are brave enough to change the way they think because it's necessary. To all the dreamers, builders, and storytellers out there, remember this:

You don't need to be perfect to evolve. You just need to be willing. Because you can't build a future on outdated thinking, but you can build it on courage, curiosity, and the commitment to do things differently.

Why We Need More Than Google - The Power of Competition in Tech
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
June 01, 2025
Let me raise my hand and start with a confession. My name is Elise, and yes, I'm a 99% Google-first kind of person.

My cellphones? iOS and Android, so there are many Google apps. Laptop? Mac, but Chrome and Google Docs all the way. Voice assistant? You guessed it. Hey, Google Gemini, and that’s because I recently added iOS back into my life, and Siri and I are yet to become besties again! She still holds a grudge for making Android my number one for a while. Siri and I are working on it.

Even though I lean heavily into Google’s ecosystem, I never forget that nothing is invincible. And that’s why competition in tech is good.

Meet a Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO)
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
May 25, 2025
As a teenager, I remember sitting in a high school classroom and being asked that age-old question, "Where do you see yourself in five years?"

At the time, my answers ranged from being a tennis player (which I did for a few years) to being an actress (which I also dabbled in my 20s and early 30s) and writer (which I still am).

Never once did the letters "A-I" cross my lips because back then, a job in artificial intelligence didn't exist, let alone a seat at executive tables. Fast-forward to today, and the world is a different beast.

With Artificial Intelligence embedded in the apps we use, the cars we drive, and the systems that keep businesses running, we are living in a new evolution era that comes with a new kind of leadership, the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, also known as a CAIO.

The Kingdom's AI Gambit
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
May 18, 2025
Saudi Arabia's latest move indicates that AI leadership is way past the West or East. And top tech giants believe that too.

Saudi Arabia's His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud recently announced the launch of HUMAIN, a PIF (Public Investment Fund) initiative to position the Kingdom as another global leader in the artificial intelligence race.

To quote HUMAIN: "What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to unlock the AI value chain to serve as a global AI hub for strategic sectors, including Energy, Government, Financial Services, Sports, and beyond. Empowering the future of AI from leading AI infrastructure to advanced intelligence - A Global AI Powerhouse"

HUMAIN is a declaration that Saudi Arabia is here to become a leader in this new AI revolution. Do they have what it takes?

How E-Waste Recycling Technology Is Evolving
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
May 11, 2025
Humanity generates mountains of electronic waste yearly, an invisible tsunami of discarded smartphones, laptops, TVs, batteries, and circuit boards.

By 2030, as per The Global E-waste Monitor, the world will produce over 82 million tonnes of e-waste, up from 62 million tonnes in 2022. But here’s the shocking part, only 22.3% of that waste was formally collected and recycled. The rest? Dumped, burned, or left to rot, leaking toxic chemicals into our soil, air, and water. Let that sink in.

When the Lights Go Out. Understanding Electric Grid Vulnerabilities and the Role of AI
www.elisequevedo.com
April 29, 2025
Yesterday, millions of people across Spain, Portugal, and parts of France experienced something we often take for granted. A sudden, unexpected blackout that stopped life in its tracks.

No power. No warning. Just silence. Did that really happen?

In those few hours, we got a reminder of how fragile our electric infrastructure really is and how dependent we are on systems that can be brought down in an instant.

It wasn’t a scene from a dystopian film. It was real life, and it happened in 2025!

Europe's Tech Renaissance and The Continent's Hot Streak
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
April 27, 2025
Hello, Europe Tech Renaissance! Are you really here? We recently heard of another tech giant, Ericsson, investing €200 million in Irish operations. And it isn't just another press release from a telecom giant.

It's a loud, clear signal, Europe is back on the map, ready to lead in R&D, connectivity, and next-generation innovation.

This investment will expand Ericsson's R&D campus in Athlone. It is about more than real estate and job creation, let's not forget that it brings 250 new roles in highly skilled fields like software development, AI, and machine learning.

This move symbolises a commitment to building Europe's technological muscle from within, not just importing innovation from Silicon Valley or Asia.

Learning from inside the belly of the beast. What better way to learn than from those creating the technological solutions of today and tomorrow?

Is Europe’s New AI Action Plan a Game-Changer or Just Hot Air?
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
April 13, 2025
The European Union has unveiled its much-anticipated AI Continent Action Plan, a bold, headline-grabbing initiative to propel the EU to the front of global artificial intelligence development. Or is it?

The plan is ambitious, and Europe is framing itself as a builder instead of just a regulator for the first time in years. It's tempting to be swept up in the buzz of it all.

Are we using technology to elevate our lives or to escape from them?
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
April 06, 2025
Scrolling through my feed a few days ago, I noticed some content tagged with #RawDogging. Let me explain if you missed this trend when it first made waves last year. It refers to travelling without using technology, with no maps, translation apps, or curated playlists, just a person, the world, and the unknown. This trend has a few variations, but the essence is the same.

It might sound edgy at first, but isn't that how travel used to be? We walked around, got lost, asked for directions, joked, and gained knowledge.

Before contemporary technology took over, many of us lived that pure, unfiltered existence; it wasn't a fad. How, then, did something so fundamental turn into a novelty? Why has it become a countercultural act to simply be in the moment?

Can the new AI factories propel Europe into the AI superpower club?
https://tomorrowsaffairs.com/
March 30, 2025
In the never-ending AI competition, Europe has taken its most daring step. An important turning point in the technological development of the continent was reached with the announcement this year by the European Commission of a €200 billion investment in AI.

Six new AI factories are at the centre of this programme, serving as the catalysts for Europe's goal of becoming the global leader in AI development.

But what does this mean for Europe? The most important question we are all asking is whether it can truly compete with the US and China.

How to deal with online haters/trolls
YouTube
April 05, 2024
Once a year, I reshare an article I wrote back in 2021 titled:

“How to deal with online haters and trolls”

And of course, thank my collaborators at the time, David Calle, Glen Gilmore, Tamara McCleary, and Ralph Echemendia. All shared their words of wisdom on this topic.

It is public knowledge that if you are in the public eye, the haters, trolls, and bullies will end up in your DMs, comments, or emails at some time or another.

I have always been a big advocate of promoting being a person of honesty, integrity, and value, being authentic to who you are, and being a voice of strength for those who may not be or feel as strong as I do in a specific moment in their life.
