Ranjan Sinha is the Chief Technology Officer and Vice President for IBM Global Chief Data Office. He leads the development of the Cognitive Enterprise Data Platform on Hybrid Multi-Cloud and manages a globally distributed cross-functional team of architects, software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, researchers, and operational support.
He is a digital transformational leader and innovator in data platforms, data engineering, and data science with a strong track record of accomplishments leading projects in both industry and academia. He is a seasoned technical leader building high performance, large-scale internet and enterprise platforms and solutions from inception to production.
Earlier, at eBay, he led multiple business impacting projects across several domains, including recommendations and personalization, that have significantly enhanced consumers’ shopping experiences. He has contributed to projects on domains such as cloud-based AI platform, infrastructure availability, data lake security, and enterprise-wide identity linking. Prior to eBay, Ranjan was a research academic at the University of Melbourne and holds a PhD in computer science from RMIT University, Australia. He has published over 30 refereed works, including in top-tier venues such as ACM SIGMOD, Bioinformatics Journal, IEEE Big Data, and VLDB journal, that have garnered over 750 citations. He won the sort benchmark medals for both JouleSort and PennySort and was amongst Wall Street Journal’s top-12 Asia-Pacific young inventors.
Ranjan frequently speaks on data platform, data sciences, scaling analytics, and big data technologies and has been an invited speaker at events worldwide. He was a speaker at the IBM GCDO summits, panelist at the IEEE Big Data conference, interviewed by KDnuggets, presented tutorial on "E-commerce Personalization at Scale" at ACM CIKM and was a co-organizer of the popular Bay Area Search Meetup consisting of nearly 2,500 members.
